This is the view from the roof top cafe of the Royal Olympic Hotel in Athens, Greece. I got up early the day we were to depart for Olympia to see the sunrise, despite being very sore from walking the entire previous day. But how many times are you treated with this kind of view.
The Temple of Olympian Zeus (Greek: Ναὸς τοῦ Ὀλυμπίου Διός, Naos tou Olympiou Dios), also known as the Olympieion or Columns of the Olympian Zeus, is a colossal ruined temple in the centre of the Greek capital Athens that was dedicated to Zeus, king of the Olympian gods. Construction began in the 6th century BC during the rule of the Athenian tyrants, who envisaged building the greatest temple in the ancient world, but it was not completed until the reign of the Roman Emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century AD some 638 years after the project had begun. During the Roman periods it was renowned as the largest temple in Greece and housed one of the largest cult statues in the ancient world...
I am an I.T. professional and aspiring programmer by day and a passionate photographer by night... and sometimes also by day. I am always on the look out for that scene or object that just might look interesting when extracted/ separated from everything around it. I don't think I've read more fitting words to live by for a photographer than those of Henry David Thoreau: "It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see." I grew up with the seed of my current obsession with photography was planted the first time I saw the photos my parents took over the years but mostly those my dad took in his youth. But sadly I did not explore this smoldering interest until my late twenties when I stumbled upon the photos of Trey Ratcliff...
