Description
The Alwyn Court is a 12-story apartment building located at 180 West 58th Street on the corner of Seventh Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, New York City, one block south of Central Park. It was built between 1907 and 1909, and was designed by Harde & Short in French Renaissance style, with elaborate terra-cotta ornamentation in the Francis I style covering the entire facade.[2] The interior courtyard has a painted architectural facade by artist Richard Haas.[3]
The building was constructed with 14-room 5-bathroom apartments which were subdivided during the Depression.[2][4] Although the interior has changed over time, the exterior, with its intricate terra-cotta decoration, has largely remained unchanged. The facade was cleaned and restored in 1980-81 by Beyer Blinder Belle.[3]
The Alwyn Court was designated a New York landmark in 1966 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
One57, formerly known as Carnegie 57,[2] is a 75-story[3] (marketed as 90-story) skyscraper at 157 West 57th Street in the Midtown neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City.[4][5][6] Upon completion in 2014, it stood at 1,005 feet (306 m) tall, making it the tallest residential building in the city for a few months until 432 Park Avenue was constructed. The building will have 92 condominium units on top of a new Park Hyatt Hotel with 210 rooms, which is set to become the flagship Hyatt property; previously, the Chicago Park Hyatt was the flagship.[7][8][9]
The contractor is Lend Lease Project Management & Construction, and the developer is Extell Development Company.[10] As of January 2015, it is home to the most expensive residence ever sold in New York City.[11]
